If the brake booster happens to lose power, you need to repair or replace the booster in order to ensure that your ABS braking system continues to work.

There’s the Midland booster, the Bendix Treadle Vac and the Bendix Hydro Vac boosters, and the Delco Moraine Booster. We rebuild other types of boosters as well, but these are the four primary types of brake units that we work with. The hydro-boost uses the hydraulic pressure from the power steering system to provide the driver assist in applying the brakes.

Park the vehicle and turn the engine off. Pump the brake pedal a few times to relieve any residual vacuum in the booster. Push the brake pedal down and hold it with light but steady force. The brake pedal should drop slightly, and the pedal should change from a high and hard feel to a normal feel. From time to time, the vacuum brake booster is susceptible to damage or typical wear and tear.


This includes the brake booster check valve. The check valve is designed to suck out air that is trapped in the brake booster without letting additional air enter the cylinder.
