Their machines have been reliable and their customer service second to none HOWEVER. I recently ordered a new laptop as a birthday present for a friend. Very disappointed with customer service - was ensured numerous times by their advisers that I will be able to get a tax-free when ordering quite an expensive laptop, because vat was a huge amount.
It seems that Dell do not have any customer service at all, for home users. What they have done is hire a firm in India to handle all calls and contacts by chat, etc. Not one of these speak English as a first language.
When I found the problem and told them, they ignored me. Ensure better customer service is offered. This has instilled trust into their customers. Dell has used CRM to its advantage. By custom-building a computer that the customer desires, this has created a very strong relationship with the customers.
