Slap repair recovery time

What is the recovery time from Slap surgery? Can a SLAP tear heal without surgery? How do you repair a SLAP lesion? Most often, a period of time of restricted motion is maintained for about six weeks following a SLAP repair.

During this first phase of rehabilitation, some passive motion is allowed to prevent shoulder stiffness.

The sling will keep your shoulder in place and prevent trauma during the postoperative recovery phase. Total Heal Time: What to Expect. Once your labrum has had adequate time to heal, your doctor may recommend physical therapy. Exercises begin with gentle, assisted range of motion movements, eventually followed by rotating and strengthening exercise for your shoulder joint and shoulder blade.

The recovery time can be separated into three stages. The first is acute pain stage (difficulty when sleeping), which usually lasts 4-weeks. This time usually involves a formal physical therapy process.

These elastic bands are great to use once your doctor clears you for resistance training. There is a large amount of variability in the time it takes to fully recover from this procedure. It is usually estimated that it will take at least 4-months to feel as though you have completely regained the use of your arm. Some cases may take as long as 9-months to make a full recovery.

Use of the sling is important to maximize labrum healing. The length of time to wear the sling largely depends on the size of the tear seen during surgery. Many people are then able to return to normal physical activity. Read on to learn about the causes of SLAP. Most people have a functional range of motion and adequate strength by four to six months after surgery.

A pain block is often used to keep the shoulder. It is believed that it takes at least four to six weeks for the labrum to reattach itself to the rim of the bone, and probably another four to six weeks to get strong. Surgery for a SLAP tear. Tears of the superior labrum might only need debridement if the labrum is fraye and then recovery would be fairly quick. Although the recovery time depends on multiple factors, one can say that on an average, a full recovery after repair of a torn labrum usually takes about three to five months.

Passive motion means the rotator cuff muscles and tendons are not doing any work.

When the rotator cuff muscles contract, tension is placed on the repair that was performed. Severity of injury at the time of operation. Postoperative complications, if any. How the injury was managed after surgery, including the effort put into the rehabilitation process. Once the pain and swelling from surgery have diminishe your surgeon will prescribe a physical therapy protocol.

Recovery time is anywhere from two to weeks depending on the severity of the injury. If you know me, attention is never my modus operandi, and using personal story is not something I come by comfortably. Using small tools, your surgeon can trim the torn part of your labrum, and then repair or reattach it.

Hey all, I had a SLAP repair years ago with a full recovery on my left shoulder, but I have developed some problems again. I can still climb and climb up to the mid range, but once I start pushing further the shoulder really gets pissed off. People with desk jobs should plan to take at least week off from work.
